The SGA tournament, in its second year, is one of three events for the ladies held in the country, the others organised in Lahore by the Punjab Golf Association and in Islamabad by the Islamabad Golf Association. These tournaments are a result of the Pakistan Golf Federation PGF initiative to increase participation of women golfers in the country and eventually professionalise the game. In a country where a handful of male golfers have made it to the Asian Tour, it seems a tough ask for a female golfer to make it to that far. Humera gave the example of the sister duo of Rimsha Ijaz and Parkha Ijaz — two rising golfers who are going to the US on a sports scholarship.

Omar Khalid on his way to becoming the youngest winner of the National Amateur Championship of Pakistan. Karachi, Pakistan: Teenager Omar Khalid has created a slice of golfing history by becoming the youngest winner of the National Amateur Championship of Pakistan. His four-round aggregate of four-over was five shots ahead of runner-up Ralfay Raja. One stroke clear at the top of the leaderboard heading into the final day, Khalid was quickly into his stride in the final round, reeling off four birdies in the opening six holes and reaching the turn in five-under 31 to open up an unassailable eight-shot buffer at the top, enabling him to coast home.

Golf NEWS. Latest Golf: Rs 7. Countries most prominent amateur female golfers are ready to participate in the event which also includes golfers from eight visiting countries which include Thailand, Turkey, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Iran, Uganda, Afghanistan and Qatar. Ladies golf in Pakistan has come leaps and bounds since due to the supportive attitude of the previous and current presidents of the Pakistan Golf Federation PGF. The exclusive all female amateur golf event is the brainchild of PGF president Gen.






Although the PGF Secretariat had sent invitations to many regional countries, intially a positive response was received from only two, one of whom later sent its regrets. However, Dr Shami refused to be discouraged. Her efforts were facilitated by the expeditious issuing of visas by our Embassies, and by the quick response of our Ministry of Health in allaying the apprenhensions of some countries regarding the state of coronavirus, as it existed at that time in Pakistan. Minister of Interior personally assured the ladies that fool proof security would be provided.
